So first off, I have to say I am a real whiny baby about shooting photos outside in the cold. I've been wanting to do something fun and new since the holidays, but with how "fun" and cold it is in New England, I have not wanted to put myself outside and I couldn't think of any project I could do indoors without a studio. However, I couldn't take it anymore after a few months and just had to shoot something, anything. Luckily, I have good friends who don't mind if I am weird and ask to take photos of them.
My buddy Thom was visiting and we decided to go to our favorite bar. He was cool with me just snapping some photos while we hung out and drank. It also gave me a chance to try out my new Ice Light I got over the holidays. This shoot was really interesting for a few reasons. One because I had no "theme" in mind I just wanted to see how I could be just taking photos of natural reactions of people. I didn't ask Thom to pose, just to keep talking and I would do my best to get some natural reactions out of him. This also gave me a chance to try playing with low lighting and seeing how the Ice Light could affect the look of the photo. I am still pretty new when it comes to lighting a scene, and I did not have a light stand with me, so I was just propping the light up on the bar table or whatever was available. I definitely still think I need to work on how I can place a light to get the look and feel I want, but I am very happy with how these came out.
Once again, huge thanks to Thom for just letting me be weird and play with photos. Next beer is on me buddy.
